| Wild
Wheat was started by Andrew Fearnside
from a love of Artisan Baking, the seed of
which was first sown in London in the mid
1990s. A qualified Chef, Andrew was given
a rare chance, while cooking at Le Pont de
la Tour, to spend some time working in their
highly regarded in-house Bakery. From there
grew a love of Bread making and a career change
that eventually led to the beginning of Wild
Wheat.
The
company was formed in October 1999 and initially
was a wholesaler to Restaurants, focusing
on Artisan Breads, especially Sourdoughs,
made very naturally using a then 5 year
old Apple based starter. The company stayed
true to the original philosophy of using
very traditional recipes with no additives
or preservatives and gained a strong reputation
for the quality and integrity of their product.
This
is still true today, and Wild Wheat
has now carried the strong foundations built
supplying the demanding restaurant trade,
to the Retail market, when it opened its
first shop in Mt Eden in September 2004.
In 2007 the Factory Shop opened in Pakuranga
for weekend sales, and in 2008 due to popular
demand the Factory Shop is now open 7 days.

The company is still producing those original
Artisan specialties it began with, and the
unique Sourdough range is ever growing as
does the passion for bread making.
